Wow- what a season it has been! If you are reading this and weren’t able to get here this summer, it’s not too late! The Steelhead have arrived! Once again, the Steelhead have arrived! We continue to transition from the late summer season into fall here in Central Oregon, and continue to have increased aquatic activity. The October Caddis are still available, and we have early runs of Steelhead in the Lower end of the Deschutes. We have been catching fish well over 15 lbs on our three day floats, and have had many fish in the 8 lbs range.
Check out the wild hen Todd caught on an prior trip we took together:

Just this last week we had a push of fish come through and here are some of the results of the ones we could hang on to. Tight lines!

Here are photos of Gary and 2 out of his 5-fish day!

After losing 2 others, Mark sealed the deal and landed his first Steelhead!

Sorry that the blog hasn’t been updated in a while, but as you can see from the photos below, it has been a busy summer! The Salmon Fly and Goldenstone hatches were spectacular this season! Currently, Pale Morning Duns and Caddis Flies continue to fill the morning and evening hatches here on the Deschutes. The MacKenzie is also a viable fishing option and is continually surprising our guests at the Fly Fishers Place. Steelheaders - get those cobwebs dusted off your spey rods - you are in for a great season with lots of fish on their way!
All the best, hope to see you all soon!
Cheers, Dan

This beauty was hiding just 6 in. off the bank!

A nice thick Deschutes Redside

Slippery Little Suckers! Can you tell which one is bigger?

Great day Georgie!

Cool temperatures and late season showers have fragmented both the Salmon flies and Goldenstone flies on the Deschutes this year, and have prolonged their hatch. Many fish have been taken in back eddies behind large trees; especially when the wind gusts come up. It is anticipated that fish will still be able to be caught with both Salmon flies and Goldenstones for the next few weeks.
I have been busy LIVING THE DREAM - and have been out on the water everyday this week with clients. With the arrival of the famous Deschutes River Salmon flies, the beautiful trout are getting fatter by the day.
More updates to come! Please feel free to drop me a line or give The Fly Fishers Place a call and we will get you more details!
Here is a picture of the new boat and a nice Deschutes Redside:
